Recently during school and work, I needed to prototype in Sketch a fixed element such as a bottom navigation bar. At first, I was using a custom artboard that has an inproportionately long height to show all the information on a mobile page. But in each of these long pages, I needed the bottom navigation tab to show at all times. Heck, can Sketch even do a scrollable prototype?
Vertical Scrolling in Sketch Prototype
At first, I was sceptical if Sketch could even do a prototype that allows vertical scrolling. With some light research, it is actually pretty easy to do so. First, you have to use an artboard that is defined in either the presets or your own custom size.
Once you have created an artboard with the preset, you can make the artboard taller by dragging or whatever that floats your boat. Now that you have made it taller, you can see from the inspector panel on the right that the artboard is resized.
If you click "Preview", your prototype can now by scrolled vertically!
Scrollable prototypeFixed Element
You might have noticed the fixed bottom navigation bar I have in the video above. Make sure the layer is at the bottom of the artboard and check the "Fix position when scrolling" box.
Blogs like this help me remember what I've learnt before and I hope you'll find it useful too.
